Katas

Katas are scripted sword routines timed to music. A sequence of Kata Orbs will appear and you must clear the orbs in order to complete the kata. Katas are graded based on time with the best possible grade being an S, and the worst being an F. Generally, the music is timed with the orbs such that achieving an S grade requires playing without the music ever stopping. To unlock the next kata you must S grade the previous Kata. There are also leaderboards for the fastest kata times. To prevent cheating, only scores on official servers are counted for leaderboards.

Kata Orbs

Kata orbs are spheres with 6 wedges that can be different colors and a center circle. When an orb is disabled it will be entirely black, otherwise its sections will either be green, blue, red or grey. A green section indicates that you need to attack the orb from the given direction, a blue side indicates that you need to block the orb from that direction, and a red side requires that you charge an attack from the given direction. Red slices do not require you to actually attack, so feinting is optimal.

The center of the orb has a charge meter and when attacking or feinting, you must charge your attack meter until the center of the orb turns fully white and plays a sound prior to releasing your swing or feinting.

You must clear all red sections of an orb prior to attacking a green section of the orb.
