Default Controls

By default, Swordai uses a "click drag" control scheme, where you hold left click and drag your mouse in a direction to swing your sword from that direction and hold right click and drag to block in that direction. Swordai uses "held" blocks which means that once you start blocking a direction you can hold the block for as long as you want by continuing to hold down the right mouse button. For attacks, Swordai uses a "hold to charge" attack system where holding down the left mouse button will charge the attack and increase its damage, and releasing the left mouse button will swing.

Swordai uses WASD movement with space to jump, and shift to sprint. All abilities can be rebound to different keys, but the default keys are Q to feint, E to kick, R to Kiai and left cntrl to dodge.

Players can set their "Click Drag" sensitivity. After a click the game waits for a movement is a consistent direction and then uses that direction for the given action and the lower the sensitivity the larger that mouse movement needs to be.

Block Assist

Block assist is enabled by default and it automatically alters your mouse input to more closely match the attack direction of your target opponent if they are nearby and if you are attempting to block in an adjacent direction.

This is very helpful for new players, but may not always be desirable in situations where you are fighting multiple opponents, so expert players may wish to disable it.

Block assist is only available in the default control scheme.

Drag Click

Drag click mode is an alternative way to input attack and block directions with your mouse. In drag click mode, an indicator will constantly show the direction of your most recent mouse movement and left clicking or right clicking will immediately initiate an attack or block in that direction. This mode uses the last direction input before a mouse button is pushed down, whereas the default controls wait and read the next mouse movement after a mouse button is pressed down.

Key Binds

You can bind keys or mouse buttons to specific directions and choose a default action (either attack or block) that is taken when you press the given direction key. So for example if you bind the "Y" key to up and your default action is block then holding Y will block up. You can also set a modifier key that makes Y do the alternate action. So for example if your modifier key is right mouse button then pressing right mouse button and holding "Y" would charge an overhead attack.

You can use the keybinds in conjunction with regular mouse inputs (either the default controls or drag click) or you can disable the mouse inputs in the Settings menu.

WASD Directions

You can enable WASD mode in the mouse settings menu under experimental. This will display a direction indicator similar to Drag Click mode but it will base the direction on your last movement direction via WASD. This mode disables the regular mouse direction inputs.
