Instaparry / Combo block

When two players are swinging at each other, whomever hits first will have the opportunity to input a block during their combo window, meaning that they can both hit their opponent and near instantly block their opponents attack.

A successful combo block also will often surprise your opponent allowing you to hit them with an immediate riposte. Against skilled players going for trades is very risky as it risks allowing your opponent to hit you, combo block, and hit you again with a riposte.

Combo blocking ripostes is risky but can pay off if you can execute it.

Dodge Kiai

Dodge and kiai can be combined and used offensively. If you rotate your body such that dodging will get you into striking distance of your opponent, you can dodge and immediately attack with kiai to come at your opponent from an unexpected angle. This works best if you dodge behind or to the side of your opponent so that they cannot see the direction of your swing when you attack.

Delayed Kiai

You can ki-ai to fully charge an attack that has decharged. If you hold an attack long enough that it decharges, when your opponent goes to attack you can immediately kiai and release the attack catching them by surprise.
